GETTING STARTED

How to successfully navigate the skatepark (a few things I have learned first hand):

1. Do not be offended when you're referred to as "dude" by just about anyone there

2. Do not be afraid to fall, when you do everyone will cheer you on and help you back up

3. If you accidentally get in someone's way odds are they will be able to avoid the collision

4. Do not get frustrated if you don't see immediate improvements in your skating, it takes time and practice to really develop

5. Try and get other friends involved in skating as well (the bigger the group you skate with the more enjoyable it is)

6. Do not get intimidated by what others around you are doing, you'll get to that level one day as well

If you're looking to begin skateboarding I would suggest to first take a look at social media. Female skateboarders tend to post a lot of what they are doing to social media. They are constantly using Instagram and Youtube to showcase new tricks and boards they have acquired. In my gallery page I included a link to each woman photographed that goes directly to their Instagram because there you can really see what these women are accomplishing. As women are not properly represented in the popular media (magazines and television) they have to showcase themselves through their social media.
